Posts and spelts is what I meant :) I see, the spelts are split only, very clever and big time saver! Yes tools that follow the wood fibers makes things stronger than sawing and the result is very pleasing to the eye.

I would say that I save time (compared to rough chopping), but a big time saver would be a saw. Of course, splitting is faster with straight trees without branches. Each single 2,2m spelt (from the log to the spelt split with removed sapwood) takes appr. 15-30min (without fine chopping/carving adjustments before the mounting). The knotty and twisted ones are taking longer, as I often have to further chop and carve around the knots. A saw throughout the entire processing would save far more time. :) Wedges are hand tools after all. And are giving the whole thing that certain something. But who am I telling this to? ;)
