Faces and expression practice. Plus some attempts at blooms, using the jasart Byron colours, which makes a fairly convincing case that these are not great, I think. References from https://line-of-action.com/practice-tools/face-expression-practice #Watercolour #pen, and what's a better tag than #UrbanSketching for this style?

@naught101 If you drew them from life, the UrbanSketching is an ok tag. But alternatives could include: #PortraitStudies #FaceStudies #ExpressionStudies Basically, they look like studies to me, especially since there isn't the environmental context that people often expect from "strict" urban sketches. :) The Byron paints look like they might have dye content – is that your impression?

@frindley@aus.social I don't have much experience with paints at all, so I can't really comment. Some of them mix and react very differently to the others though. Like, the black one does make cauliflowers, and the darker blue, but not many of the other colours. The reds and yellows seep out in fingers, rather than a uniform front. I think maybe what I'm doing is #LineAndWash? Most things are not from life. And the one that is from life is a landscape 😅 The book I'm drawing inspiration from most is "Urban Watercolor Sketching: A Guide to Drawing, Painting, and Storytelling in Color" by Felix Scheinberger - he has a bunch of urban sketching in there, but also lots of character design and random bits and pieces. I love his style though, and want to build towards something like that

@naught101 Yes, Felix Scheinberger has a marvellous, distinctive style – full of character. I recognise the influences in your portraits.
