Morning on Padre Island. Gulf of Mexico, Texas There’s a weirdo who periodically drops into my comments to “correct” the name of the Gulf of Mexico. The confidence is impressive. The grasp of history, not so much 🤭 American settlers didn’t arrive on empty land. They moved into Mexican territory and proved unable to do even the bare minimum required for coexistence: learn the language, engage with the culture, or accept the end of slavery. When adaptation failed, annexation became the workaround 🤷♀️ Long before that, this region was home to the Karankawa and Coahuiltecan people. But sure, keep correcting geography.
