Sometimes you just want to take a nice walk without carrying all the equipment and then you inevitably come to a scene like this and wonder why you don't always carry the telephoto lens with you. But it was a very nice encounter nevertheless and the woodpecker didn't care about me being just a few meters away at all, just leisurely flying from tree to tree picking evening snacks from the bark. #nature #naturephotography #birds #wildlife #wildlifephotography

It often happens to me that I get too close, leave hardly any space for the subject, offer no context. Simply because I want to keep the scene "clean". But that’s not always a good thing. And here it’s exactly right the way it is. I like it a lot.
