๐Ÿšจ Breaking Pond News ๐Ÿšจ ๐Ÿฆค Dory (Duckateers' mama) has her new clutch hatching as we speak ... serendipity that I checked in on her at the perfect moment ๐Ÿฅฐ ๐Ÿ“ธ 4 Photos ... I tried motion captures, not certain if it works on Pixelfed or if they show up as a single still-photo ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ ๐Ÿฃ I've counted six so far, and am not entirely certain what her final egg count was ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿฃ #Ducks #Ducklings #MuscovyDucks #Wildlife

@RiversideBryan If I quickly flip through the four photos, the effect is almost a flip book. Are the Duckateers interested in Dory and their siblings? Or, do they stay away from the momma duck on her nest.

RiversideBryan

Typically other ducks (muscovy that is) stay away from a nesting mother, with the exception of her current mate, the male she paired with for this season. He (papa) comes and goes. Sometimes the papa will nest-sit so mama can go find food and drink, but not always. Only difference i happened to notice with her this round was, the first several days she nest-sat, the duckateers waited patiently next to her, apparently sleeping next to her, but after 3 or 4 days moved on without her, and I don't think there's been contact since then.

@RiversideBryan Thank you for answering my questions!

I try not to anthropomorphize the Duckateers and their mother, but sometimes I just stroll right into doing it.
