The university where I used to teach is known for robotics and at one point they were developing a “soccer-playing robot”. One of my colleagues remarked, “Kids, if you think the DoD is interested in winning the world cup, I’ve got some bad news for you…” The NSA actively recruits during the Annual “Activities Fair.” “Hey kids! Do you like solving puzzles? Try these and talk to a recruiter!” I had a “problematic” relationship with my former employer.

@MikePgh LOL My first job (in college) was building robots, including some of the very first (attempted) drones. (note: model helicopters REALLY SUCK for control). Amusingly, some of the robots I built ended up in a student production of RUR.

@MikePgh Needless to say, despite all that, I have very strong aversions to the use of such technology in a military setting. (It may be inevitable, but I'm not going to contribute to that).
