Good morning. 🦆🦆🦆 11 October 2025 When I was a child living on the naval base in Yokosuka, Japan during the early 1960s, I remember being rather brazen in some ways. I loved comic books—especially the DC superheroes and Dennis the Menace. It wasn’t uncommon for me to trek over to the Naval Exchange, settle myself on the floor, and read comics straight from the stand. If I had the cash, I’d buy one or two. They were a whole dime each. Here’s an interesting detail: back then, we used Military Payment Certificates (MPC), which were paper currency—even down to the nickel. Pennies were still allowed. MPC was colorful, and I seem to recall the ten-cent note being blue, though that’s more of a memory fragment than certainty—it was so long ago. I remember one particular day when my mother gave me fifty cents and sent me to the commissary to buy a loaf of bread. Like any kid, my route was anything but direct—my imagination wandered with me. Somewhere along the way, I realized I’d lost the fifty cents—a hefty sum at the time. I stopped, unsure what to do, and prayed for help, fearing the wrath I might face if I returned empty-handed. Looking back now, decades later, that fear was unfounded—but I was just a kid. Then something curious happened. I felt compelled to walk in the direction of the wind. So, I did. And sure enough, I came across the fifty cents. I seem to recall the note being a brownish-red color, though again, that detail is softened by time. Was it divine intervention, or simply a child’s mind reasoning its way through uncertainty? I still wonder, even after all these years. The moment feels suspended between faith and instinct—an echo of something quietly profound. “Memories of childhood were the dreams that stayed with you after you woke.” — Julian Barnes “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is.” — Albert Einstein #morning #ducks #lake #sunset #dusk #comicbooks #faith #MPC
