Yeah I had some jewel wasps in my backyard that were very finicky to photograph. I now see why people say to try to take macros early in the morning before it gets warm and the insects are not as active.

Reminds me of trying (and failing) to take photos of the big swallowtail butterflies I saw flapping around Seattle - they're amazingly quick!
Then I happened to be up fairly early one morning, and a butterfly obligingly sat still on a flower right in front of me.
(I am not a morning person.)
