1Sauerlaender The Holy Staircase in Bonn-Endenich (North Rhine-Westphalia) is a place of pilgrimage on the Kreuzberg and is part of the building complex of the Kreuzberg Church there. The Holy Staircase in Bonn is the only one of its kind in the Rhineland. It was built by Balthasar Neumann, donated by Cologne's Elector Clemens August and consecrated in 1751. It is a replica of the "Scala Santa", the staircase allegedly from Pilate's palace, which Jesus had to climb before his condemnation and which is said to have been brought to Rome as early as 326.
